Write Around The Block

How famous writers tackled writer’s block

As a writer myself, I know the fear of the blank page and how it can feel impossible to fill with well-chosen words. Or even badly chosen ones. Despite this, I still don’t really believe in ‘writer’s block’. For me, not being able to write is often more down to procrastination (I have a serious problem with this), distraction (the internet, other people, need I say more) or enervation (isn’t everyone always tired?).

I looked into some famous writers that I’ve read and admire to see what methods they suggest to break down the writer’s block wall.

J.K. Rowling: The beloved author of the Harry Potter series and the Comoran Strike mysteries, has talked about facing writer’s block at various points in her writing career. She mentioned that when she experiences a block, she takes a break from writing, goes for a walk, and clears her mind. Rowling also emphasised the importance of not being too hard on oneself during these periods, as self-criticism can exacerbate the problem.
